Ely State Prison Visit

I am happy to report that last week FOP visited ESP in order to hand out gatorade, water, and chips. While in Ely we also toured the prison to gain a better understanding of what our Ely staff face. Throughout the tour and the time at shift change, we had some excellent conversations with staff of all ranks. The professionalism and courtesy exhibited by staff was thoroughly appreciated by President Lunkwitz and Supervisor Chairman Ashcraft. Overall the feedback on FOP's efforts was overwhelmingly positive. Looking to the future, most staff were far more interested in corrective safety and security issues as opposed to pay and benefits. We heard you loud and clear and are in the process of working on correcting these issues. There were also a lot of great ideas on pursuing benefits in a different manner. Rest assured we are prioritizing these ideas and looking outside the box on how to better serve our membership. Huge thank you to our Trustee Justin Hunt and Steward Michael Adams who despite almost zero sleep, were there to tour and help hand out at shift change the whole time we were there. Big thank you to the Wardens and Supervisors for giving us full access to the facility. We look forward to improving the work environment in Ely and everywhere, in many different ways as we move forward.
