Money doesn’t cure everything

If you all remember, Nebraska Corrections received historic pay raises. Let this article be a lesson to all supervisors and administrators, money ain't everything. Officers, we all have to work with the supervisors and administration to change the culture in the NDOC, to retain our staff. Take responsibility for your actions, work together to improve our department, and most importantly, remember we are a family. Supervisors are not the enemy and officers are not just a number. Be safe and take care of each other.

Just a few weeks ago I saw on Notis several officers refuse mandatory overtime at HDSP. Their names were all posted onto Notis as if they were an inmate and had a back number. Crazy!

Money doesn't solve morale problems. All the money in the world doesn't bring happiness. Maybe some would beg to differ, but you catch my drift.

Southern Desert is in trouble. If staffing levels don't improve the yard will be out of control soon. Inmates work out more than the officers do. 4 hours of sleep a day then back to another 16 hour shift.

Ask yourself how someone could work 32 hours in two days, off 8 hours of sleep. With that being said how…

Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody (https://allpoetry.com/Everybody,-Somebody,-Anybody,-and-Nobody)

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.

Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.

Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.

Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.

It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done

Moral is sh***y because of this never-ending cycle: We are low staffed as it is, so we get mandated constantly, so we constantly call off because of burnout. Not only that, but we are denied annual leave 90 percent of the time. When we return to work after calling off, supervisors will hold that against us and give us posts we don't like or deny our transfers or not promote us because of our call offs. Our years of service don't matter. Our experience doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is how many sick hours you have. The end result is 20 plus year, disgruntled veteran officers who get mandated by inexperienced supervisors that aren't respected by their subordinate…
