I’ve got to say today was one of the worst days I’ve had in my time as President of FOP. It started off great with the BOE approving the supervisors CBA. Then AB 596, which is the bill that was set to fund all of the CBAs including ours, was amended to void all compensation benefits from all of the CBAs, with the exception of retention pay. The Assembly said in a loud clear voice, you got nothing coming. All of the following items were set to be funded by AB 596: Muster pay, special pay, union leave, longevity, personal days, uniform allowance, annual leave cash out, and new hire bonus. Now Muster Pay has to be paid, but it may change how they pay it moving forward, as in the 45 minutes may not be guaranteed. Or maybe they don’t pay it at all, and we sue them again. Just so everyone is clear, this will be the same for supervisors and officers/forensics on the CBAs. Everything that we have been fighting for since July for the supervisors and January for officers/forensics is currently in jeopardy. We still have the Senate Committee on Finance, but we are staring at a major blow to our victory in arbitration for both CBAs. I have been sick to my stomach since hearing this and I assure you no one is more pissed off then I am. The state is a bunch of dirty, conniving, underhanded, sore losers. We are not done fighting. I am in discussions with other union leaders and our attorney as to what the next steps are.
Welp, this is disappointing. Now I see why we need to be on 8 hour shifts again. People are going to start quitting again... Ot will ramp up and we can start kissing our homelife goodbye while this is all happening. Whyyyyyyyyyyyy. Maybe I am being dramatic, but it feels crystal clear.
I just don't understand why they are being so greedy this time around they where not this greedy during covid time when we where in worse times. on a different note i see it was passed then amended but the video on that meeting is not available for some reason, what are they hiding. Looking at the first time the bill was put up sounds like since we did not have the contract completed be for the governor made the budged before legislation started is kind of there excuse.
Thanks Paul for all the hard work.
