Brothers and Sister, I am relieved to tell you that through the efforts of your union, Senators, and friends of the union, the Senate Committee on Finance has dug deep to find the money to fund the items that the original amendment would have taken away. will take you to the proposed amendment that will guarantee we keep Muster pay, uniform allowance, special pay, and recruitment bonus for unit i and unit n. The downside is that retention pay will be decreased from $2,000 to $1,000 per year. The upside is that we will be receiving a 1% increase to salary July 1, 2025 and a 1% increase to salary July 1, 2026.
To be clear I am not viewing this as a victory, but as avoiding a catastrophic loss in pay. The last two days I have spent in front of a computer screen, going back and forth between 2 phones, and back and forth between the legislative building in Las Vegas. We expressed our support through multiple FOP team members, officers, forensics, and supervisors. This was a massive turn of events and it certainly lessens the sting of not getting our full arbitration award. FOP will still look at what we can pursue to get our full arbitration award funded for the next legislative session, but for now the PERS increase is slightly offset and the extra compensation benefits are safe for this biennium.
I would like to recognize Second Vice President Don Hicks for his tireless efforts in Carson City lobbying for our members. He has exemplified the utmost professionalism and diligence in his effort to amplify the voice of the Union. If you see Don, please tell him thank you. I also want to recognize our entire FOP Team, including all board members, trustees, and stewards for their efforts to assist Don and I in strategizing how to move forward during this difficult couple of days. Their input was invaluable to me in authoring all of the letters that I sent to Assemblymembers and Senators, as well as the conversations I had with Senators over the weekend. Please take a moment to thank all of our FOP team members when you see them. Lastly, thank you to all of our members becasue without you, we could not do what we do. You all are appreciated and I am honored to serve as your President!
This bill still has to be voted through the Senate in a floor session. That will likely be tomorrow.
Thanks again for the hard work. They wonder why they lose so many officers. We appreciate you and your efforts.
Any idea on what the Pers increase will be this year? Are we ultimately going to break even?
I appreciate all of FOP'S tireless efforts to assist us avoiding a catastrophic loss in pay and benefits. I am truly grateful for each and every one of you, you did us proud. I apologize in advance if I offend anyone who reads this but, we should invest more time and effort in Senators like Cannizzaro (who is a Democrat and supposably don't support Law Enforcement) who went down and testified in our behalf. That was very brave of her for having our backs not like GOVERNOR LOMBARDO (who is a Republican and touts he supports Law Enforcment) who supposably had our back. I don't believe in choosing one party over the other as both have flaws, but what she…
Thanks Paul and Don and all my fellow FOP board members for fighting for all of us. I am proud that I get to be part of this great team that continues to provide all members with increases in benefits.
You guys did everything you could and didn’t give up. We appreciate your efforts.
