Assembly Ways and Means Committee

The Assembly Ways and means Committee met this evening and discussed AB 596. I am disappointed to say that they shared a bleak outlook on funding all of the CBAs. The sentiment was that they will do what they can, but they will not put the state in a deficit in order to fund the CBAs. The exact words used were that all of the unions will get something, but don’t expect to get everything negotiated or awarded in arbitration. I guess the bright side of this is that we will not get zero funding for the arbitration award that we won. What will be funded and what will not, is still up in the air. I will do my best to keep you all updated as I learn of any updates. If you haven’t already done so, you might wish to click on the link in the previous post that will send a form letter to your Assemblymember, urging support for the passing of this bill and funding for Unit I. We will be addressing Unit N as well after Thursday and this was brought up in the committee tonight. Spread the word to all of your fellow brothers and sisters to take a moment to send in the email. This is how we lobby the legislature. Stand with us and make your voice heard!
