So I have a question I work in unit 6AB, LEVEL 3 SMU. We utilize Rec. Cages for the inmates even though they are GP. We've had the same issue in my unit, but no ine was injured. What is your input on refusing to conduct yard when we do not have a gun rail?

Great question. The unfortunate truth is that while the order is unsafe, it is not illegal. Now if you’re capable of articulating why that is an unsafe position that you will not put yourself in, you may have action. Question is, are you FOP? Can you withstand the shit storm that comes with refusing that kind of order? Ultimately, if you articulate the dangers of that situation effectively, you will likely prevail. In no way am I suggesting that officers start refusing orders, but if you call to request the necessary staff and they refuse to send the required officers, you make sure you document exactly what they’re telling you to do/violate.
